Everyone living in Thornwood knows that parking can be a problem. Everyone would like things to be improved. There is disagreement as to whether the RPZ is the solution to our particular problem. Some areas have suffered from lots of commuter and visitor parking. In Thornwood there may be some of that, but it is likely that a far bigger problem is that too many of us own cars. In many streets there are two parking spaces for every eight or more properties. Figures from the DVLA have shown that there are more cars registered in Thornwood than there will be bays available for parking. One particular complaint has been cars parked on corners. Some believe that the RPZ will reduce the number of cars in the area and, since people will be more reluctant to park outside a bay, the problem of corner parking will decline. Others fear the reduction in parking spaces will make matters worse and more people will be forced to park on corners because there will be nowhere else. Either way, parking on corners is definitely a problem. Emergency vehicles, fire engines and ambulances, have been observed not being able to negotiate a corner, and bins haven't been collected. The video shows the second ambulance that night having difficulties. The first gave up, reversed down the road, and found another route.
