Up until the end of the recent 'Community Engagement' it was possible to read GCC's rationale for introducing an RPZ in Broomhill and Thornwood. When that part of the process ended they removed the information from their website. However, in general terms GCC say:
Glasgow City Council introduces Restricted Parking Zones (RPZs) primarily to address parking congestion in residential areas. These schemes aim to prioritize parking spaces for local residents, visitors, and businesses by requiring permits, while discouraging long-term commuter parking from outside the zone. Their key reasons for RPZs are to help reduce obstructive and indiscriminate parking, and improving access for emergency services, refuse vehicles, deliveries, and pedestrians. They also promote better traffic flow, lower congestion, and enhanced road safety, including for cyclists and vulnerable users. By limiting non-resident parking, Glasgow seeks to cut private car commuting, boost air quality, and encourage sustainable transport options such as public transport ond car clubs. This aims align with broader goals in the city's Local Transport Strategy for accessible, healthier neighbourhoods.Â
The plans are no longer available from GCC's website but the following pdfs indicate their plans for parking and one-way streets in Thornwood and Broomhll. (3.6MB)
Remember, following the recent Community Engagement there may well be some changes to these plans.
