For years now Thornwood Community Council has been working alongside our neighbouring Community Councils and the Victoria Park Area Partnership to bring about improvements to the Thornwood Roundabout. There have been many accidents on the roundabout or on neighbouring roads. Pedestrians have regularly complained about the difficulty of crossing the adjoining roads because of the speed of the traffic exiting the roundabout and often not knowing which direction the vehicle is going to take.
Now, in 2026, things are about to happen.
Glasgow City Council's plans for the Thornwood Roundabout focus on a redesign to improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and active travel, tied to upgrades for National Cycle Network Route.
There was a public consultation which closed in Dec 2025 but you can still find all the details of the plans on the council's dedicated webpage

In 2024 the Victoria Park Area Partnership approved £100k for initial designs and consultations with stakeholders such as us and other community councils.
The project aims to better connect Partick, Thornwood and Whiteinch, while reducing car dominance at this busy junction.
Proposals include protected cycle lanes linking Broomhill Drive to Dumbarton Road, signal-controlled crossings, dropped kerbs, traffic calming, and public realm enhancements like seating and green spaces. A new car club bay on Thornwood Drive supports shared transport, with funding from Transport Scotland.
